Despite threatening weather the RANS 9th Annual Fly-in turned out to be one of our best. Over 200 guests enjoyed the company of fellow builders, touring the plant, and attending seminars. Thirteen planes filtered in and around the various weather problems filling the ramp with a variety of RANS planes. A flight of three S-12 Airailes came all the way from Maryland. Led by the intrepid Ted Bryant in his “Lexus” S-12XL the trio crossed half the nation in three days.

Flight operations recorded over 101 demos between Friday and Saturday. A big thanks to our dealers and also RANS aircraft owners for helping with this chore. Donations for the rides are collected and given to our local United Way Fund Drive. A special thanks to Bob Humphrey for lending his time and super nice S-6S for demos. Bob was in the air constantly Friday and a good part of Saturday. Ed Williams also did a fair share of demos in his very nice S-12XL and a huge thanks to Ted Bryant for hopping rides with his S-12XL. Thanks guys, we really were glad you stopped by!
To spice it up a bit we invited guest speakers this year to hold seminars. Roger Lehnert of Super Flight held a Fabric and Paint seminar on Friday. The very wise and famous Eric Tucker, representing the Rotax Flying and Safety Club, graced the event staging a packed Rotax seminar on Friday. Dennis Keesling of Keesling Aviation, from Hutchison, Kansas, held a well attended Sport Pilot Training seminar on Saturday. Our own crew staged a Dacron wing covering demo both Friday and Saturday, showing off the amazing aspect of being able to completely cover and prep a wing for flight ops in a couple hours.
The weather on Saturday was not typical for June in Kansas. Little to no wind, mild temps and small groups of clouds added up for the perfect day. We would pay for this on Sunday, as only a few were able to leave in between the rain and thunderstorms. Monday morning was the launch time for the remaining flyers, all of which made home safely.
