S-19 Progress Report: 8-10-07
OPEN FOR DEMOS
The S-19 has completed 50 hours of flight test and is now available for demonstrations flights. RANS will sponsor an open house in September, but you can schedule a demo flight in the S-19 before or after the event. Please call ahead to check for flight status on the day of your visit.

A GOOD SECOND IMPRESSION…

The plane has passed flight test and advanced inspection in flying colors. As you get to know a plane it is fun to track first impressions to more matured views. In the case of the S-19, I was impressed with the smooth balanced handling, and was very curious about performance. After 50 hours of flying I am still very impressed with the fine handling, and very happy with performance. At Oshkosh we had a pretty good idea the plane would make the numbers, and it seems we are very close. As we told you at Oshkosh, cruise speed is 110 Kts, and could see some improvement with some tweaks to prop, wheel pants, and other drag offenders. But the bottom line is a solid 110 Knots in stock form, meaning it can only get better from here.

Service ceiling is working out to above 14K, which makes it a decent plane for going anywhere in the USA. Endurance is 4hours when running around 5300 PRM.

GETTING UPSIDE DOWN
Spin and aerobatic flights show a pretty aggressive recovery from spins. This is not a conclusion about spins, since we need to fly many more spin tests, but the plane is reacting very nice to recovery input. Aerobatics are not the intention of this plane, but rolls and loops are performed to discover any handling issues from unusual attitudes. The plane is quite easy to roll and loop due to the weight, speed and cleanliness.

KITS PROGRESSING
The factory is buzzing with activity as we build the first batch of kits. We are also building another S-19 to be right along side our builders in tech support. The first tail kits will be shipping in a few more weeks.
TAKING IT WITH YOU
One of the design goals of the S-19 was to have enough cubic baggage space to carry one or two folding or knock down bikes (we are currently working on a knock-down bike of our own design). This photo confirms there is plenty of space for at least one and baggage, and two if packing really light, like only a toothbrush light!
